Water and day trips
The farm lies right on the Drentse Hoofdvaart canal: plenty of fishing, and in summer the pleasure boats sail by.
Fancy a swim? Near Hoogersmilde lies Het Blauwe Meer, a lake in the woods with a large beach on its east side. The walk around the lake is lovely too.
Appelscha, Diever and Dwingeloo host many activities and markets. Veenhuizen is home to the National Prison Museum, and Assen has a pleasant town centre with the Drents Museum. The TT Circuit lies between Assen and Smilde, within cycling distance.
